If you don't mind, at what age did you do that?

One of my sons lives in Spain (for almost 10 years); now he is on Malaga but used to live in Madrid, Oviedo, Gion, and Seville. Every year he comes home (Canada) to renew his visa (or get a new one). Nobody, including him, knows when he might throw in the towel and come back to Canada... Will he?

Regardless of these questions and obvious parallels, I really enjoyed reading your story Philip. Thoughtful, beautifully written. Pleasure to read.
