I happen to know more about weight loss than an "average" person. Why? Because of my education and academic research, plus personal interest in this topic. "Eat less, move more" is generally the right direction, but the devil in the details, as usual. "Move more" is essential for staying healthy but, contrary to the popular belief, it is not the top factor for losing wight (or maintaining a healthy weight). The main factor is the "right" eating habits, including what, when and how much you eat. None of it is a fad diet. I totally agree that fad diets do more harm than good and rarely, if ever, are helpful for sustainable weight loss. There are other factors that may play a crucial role for some people and their ability to lose weight. One of the most powerful factors is hormonal balances, or imbalances. For example people with dysfunctional thyroid may have a very hard time trying to lose wright, no matter how much they eat and how much they move... Anyway, weight loss is a perfect topic for massive deception and money-making schemes. Education is the key to stay sane, assuming it is based on solid academic research, which is not funded by the Big Pharma and the food industry...

I actually published a super-short book to educate "lay" people on the topic; if anybody is interested, here it is :-)
