Exactly!! The follower count doesn't mean anything, but your M stats include M subscribers, M followers who are not subscribers, and some random readers who are not even followers. Of course email subscribers are gold in this sense but email lists are not always "gold." Here we are in full agreement, Denis: it depends how those email lists are being used.
